Liverpool had already won the Football League, but their season wasn’t over yet.
Winning the FA Cup the season prior put them in the European Cup Winners’ Cup. They had a tough run, having to face Juventus, Standard Liege, Honved and Celtic, but they made it all the way to the final, where they were to face Borussia Dortmund in their first ever European final.
