Although what was mostly a dead rubber between Chile and Peru had already made sure Uruguay could not win the group, Oscar Tabarez's men needed a win against an understrength Mexico side to ensure they progressed onto the next round.
Admittedly the least interesting match up of the evening. After Uruguay had drawn with Chile, people could be forgiven for ignoring the clash between Peru and a heavily depleted Mexican side, and in doing so they didn't miss a whole lot.
At last, someone has delivered. It was looking like the time had come to just give up with the whole favourites tag. Argentina disappointed; Colombia disappointed; Brazil disappointed; Uruguay disappointed. But no, Chile finally gave us a very good performance; it wasn't a resounding win, but Chile were dominant, controlling possession, creating chances and (mostly) defending comfortably against a young Mexico side.
