New Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel faced his first big test with a visit to Tottenham Hotspur, managed by former Chelsea legend José Mourinho.
The German set up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, pushing his wing-backs high up the pitch alongside Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi, with Mason Mount linking play behind them.
Tottenham lined up in a 4-2-3-1 shape, however when defending this became a 4-2-2-2, with Tanguy Ndombele and Steven Bergwijn following Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho and Son Heung-min pushing up alongside Carlos Vinicius to combat the back three.
This defensive set-up didn’t work and in this video we take a deeper look at what went wrong for Spurs.
