After a gruelling 120 minutes in the FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday, Liverpool had an important game just four days later against Southampton.
Jürgen Klopp rotated heavily, sending out a makeshift side containing just two men from the team that had started the final. The changes were most keenly felt in midfield, where none of the trio were playing in their natural positions.
James Milner, originally a winger converted into a box-to-box midfielder, sat at the base of the midfield, while Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott pushed on to join Roberto Firmino between the lines ahead of him.
This structure created a disconnect in possession, but it also posed a defensive problem that Southampton exploited to take the lead.
In this video we examine how exactly this structure allowed Southampton to draw first blood against the Reds.
